What we offer

Formative pruning

Formative pruning

Formative pruning helps the tree to establish a good, attractive, branch structure as it grows. Branch structure can contribute to tree health too. If crossing branches are allowed to develop, they can rub against each other causing bark wounds that allow disease-causing organisms to get into the wood.
Perhaps most importantly, formative pruning can correct problems in a young tree that have the potential, if not corrected, to lead to tree failure later on.

Branch reduction

Branch reduction

Branches that extend over your house, fences or other parts of your garden and property can shade your solar panels, lead to gutter build up or potentially fail if there is a structural defect present, at times these branches need to be pruned or removed for safety, purpose or aesthetics.

Tree and stump removal

Tree Pruning

Tree Pruning

Pruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure. landscape trees require a higher level of care to maintain their structural integrity and aesthetics given their location within our yards and public open spaces. Pruning must be done with an understanding of tree biology as Improper pruning such as lopping or topping can create lasting damage or even shorten a tree's life. At all times Flanagan’s strives to work within our Australian Standard of pruning.

Palm cleaning

Palm cleaning

Pruning of palms is mostly done to remove dead or dying fronds and/or flowering/fruiting clusters, particularly those that may be a potential risk to the public, Pruning is usually conducted at least bi-annually. Great care should be taken to avoid any damage to a palm's terminal bud or trunk when removing fronds and It is best for the palm if green fronds remain intact. Overpruned palms may have slower growth and may attract pests.

Hedges and Topiary

Hedges and Topiary

At Flanagan’s We love our hedges and Topiary! the privacy they give us, they way individual Specimens contour within our garden, the spectacle the flowers give us when your hedge or shrub becomes a wall of colour!
Maintaining your hedges or topiary is important to maintain its form and structure, at Flanagan’s we trim most of our clients hedges bi-annually, usually in mid to late spring as the new growth grows vigorously to maintain the shape over the warmer months and again in mid to late autumn once again to maintain the shape and also ready the hedge for the following springs growth.

Fruit tree pruning

Fruit tree pruning

At Flanagans we spend a good proportion of winter and early spring pruning fruit trees around the East Gippsland area.
The ideal time to prune a fruit tree is in early spring right before the fruiting begins or in late winter. Winter pruning at the very end of the harvest helps to prime the tree for the following year, resulting in strong growth. It also trains the tree to grow in a particular shape. Pruning at these times of the year prevents damage to the tree due to frost, cold or sunburn. It is possible to do summer pruning as well, but you must be careful of how you do it.
Pruning in summer can be done to direct more energy to existing fruit or to remove crossing branches or broken branches.
This is more relevant to a mature tree that has already been established since young trees won’t have had much opportunity to grow.
We also keep an eye out for pest and diseases issues and can treat these afflictions as required.

Rose pruning

Rose pruning

Do you know we prune a number of roses across the region?
Pruning is a highly effective way of controlling the size and neatness of the bush and maximising flower production and encouraging strong growth.
By decreasing the size of the rose, the plant has less eyes that require sap flow in spring. This results in stronger stem production and therefore more flowers.
Pruning is best done mid to late winter or early spring also until the most severe frosts have passed in frost prone areas. Dead heading old flowers can be done as the blooms die off, this is usually done by the home owner, if you have a large collection then we can certainly be of assistance.

Solar panel cleaning

Solar panel cleaning

Solar panels ingest sunlight and convert it into usable energy. Anything that blocks the sunlight from reaching the silicon on the solar panels can influence the performance of your system.
Dirty solar panels can cause a reduction of up to 60% in power output due to the accumulation of dirt, dust, or other debris on their surface. The extent of power loss can vary depending on the level of dirt and the specific conditions, such as the angle and orientation of the panels, the type of dirt, and the duration of the dirt buildup.
A bit of dust build-up may not be much of a problem and may be able to be tackled with your garden hose but If your solar panels are heavily soiled or you are uncomfortable cleaning them yourself then give Flanagan’s a call, we have a low pressure, deionisation unit specifically made for panel cleaning to keep your energy supply running efficiently.
